Springfield, Oregon: Matt Groening announces location of “The Simpsons”

Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons, has officially identified the fictional Springfield inhabited by the yellow-hued family to be Springfield, Oregon. Since the show’s inception in 1989, the true location of Springfield has been kept secret, with the idea that fans would think of Springfield as their own regardless of where they lived, Groening said Tuesday in an interview with Smithsonian Magazine. (Photo: AP / Twentieth Century Fox / Matt Groening)
(Now, to some of you fancy New York intellectuals out there, Groening’s announcement may not quite qualify as a “literary event,” but for the past 25 years the Simpson’s Springfield has comprised one of the most most fully realized comic landscapes in the history of American fiction. Thus any information pertaining to the hometown of our nation’s favorite eternally irreverent, yellow-skinned family is not only breaking news, but culturally significant.)

A Visual Approximation of Bubba Watson’s Brilliant Shot in Masters Playoff

Bubba Watson’s ridiculous shot on hole two of the Masters playoff will be played incessantly over the next few days, and deservedly so. And each year around this time, golf analysts and fanatics alike will discuss the shot with great vigor and enthusiasm thanks to Watson’s wonderful recovery after sending his drive into the woods.
Even for those of us who don’t watch or play golf on a regular basis, it’s impossible not to appreciate the shot, especially under such weighty circumstances. For an even deeper appreciation of said shot, take a gander at this visual approximation, which was offered up by this guy after someone on Twitter just couldn’t understand why he stated it was one of the most ridiculous shots he’d ever seen.

Tiger Woods Finishes Masters With Worst 4-round Score

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods arrived at Augusta National as a favorite to win his fifth green jacket. Instead, he left with his worst score as a pro.
A 74 on Sunday put Woods at 5-over 293 for the Masters, which was his worst four-round score since he posted the same number as a first-time amateur way back in 1995. He shot a 291 in 2007, but that was good enough for second that year, when it was windy and bitterly cold. When he left the course Sunday, he was tied for 41st, the same spot he finished in 1995.
"It was an off week at the wrong time," he said.
Woods never broke par on the course where he was so dominant that Masters officials were accused of trying to "Tiger-proof" it when they redesigned parts of it. Worse, he was just 1 under for the week on the par 5s, where he normally collects birdies by the handful.

Grilled Pineapple Upside Down Cake

I love to make things on the grill! I find it to be relaxing and fun. I also love desert, so about a year ago I set out on a mission to see what kind of good desert recipes I could come up with to make on my grill. I have practiced many times to get the perfect upside down cake. I modified the cake recipe a little to give it some more flavor (good pit masters never just use a standard recipe). This is a very good pineapple upside down cake and quite easy to make.  Its always neat to see the reactions of people that have never had a cake made on a grill before. Below is how I make Grilled Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

I made these Scalloped Potatoes and Onions to go along with our Easter dinner last year. They turned out wonderfully, and were so creamy that you'd never know that they are made without milk. I am looking forward to making them again this coming weekend and thought I'd share the recipe with you all.  For our family, I doubled the recipe and used a 9x13 baking dish.

Stop the Presses! AO’s The Sound of Music is making waves on and off stage

Following it’s original roots, the beloved classic by Rodgers & Hammerstein appears in traditional Broadway form. High caliber, classically trained singers boasting warm, rich tonal quality with vocal characterization are paired with the original full orchestration. LIVE orchestra, not “canned” (recorded, or “synthesized”) music of today’s now predominantly elected practice. Setting Anchorage Opera’s production of The Sound of Music above it’s Broadway touring competitors and local musical theatre presenters. If that isn’t enough to impress- AO is a ‘Production’ company, rather than ‘Presenting’ one. All performances are fully manufactured and produced by artists in the great state of Alaska.

Boiling down the specifics of a hard-cooked egg

The reason this hard-boiling technique works so well is really pretty simple, but it helps to know a little bit about how eggs work.
Eggs consist largely of protein — mixed with mostly water in the white, or albumen, and mixed with fat and water in the yolk. When the eggs are raw, the proteins are like strands of yarn curled up in little balls. As the eggs are heated, these strands relax and unfold. As they unfold, they bump into each other and link up. (Fun fact: This is why egg "whites," which are clear when raw, are white when cooked — the unfurled, linked-up proteins block light from passing through.)

Easy Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Okay, so in this case "hard boiled" is a bit of a lie. These are "hard cooked" eggs. And why it's easy to peel them is because we're cooking them in a pressure cooker. If you think that's crazy . . . then you're crazy. 'Cuz this is a friggin' miracle for the hard cooked egg lover, the egg salad lover, the deviled egg lover, and that rare and mystic creature . . . the sauce gribiche lover.

Now don't start with that, "But pressure cookers scare me!" Stuff it! Pressure cookers are awesome. You can tell your fear to suck it.

Virginia Beach Residents Still Missing After Navy Jet Crash

As of late Friday night, three people from one of five apartment buildings heavily damaged in the crash were unaccounted for, down from 30, Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Riley said.
No one has been reported missing to authorities, but rescue crews are using a checklist of all occupants in the five buildings in an effort to account for all residents, Riley said.
Rescue crews did an initial search of the five buildings, and as of Friday night, completed 95% of a secondary search, Riley said.

Carlos Peña hit an early grand slam off CC Sabathia, then completed a ninth-inning comeback with an RBI single off closer Mariano Rivera to give host Tampa Bay a 7-6 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday. Evan Longoria also homered for the Rays, and New York's Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer.
Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4 — Chris Young and Paul Goldschmidt hit first-inning home runs and Ryan Roberts broke a tie with a two-run double in the sixth as host Arizona beat Tim Lincecum (0-1) for the fourth straight time.

Pituitary Tumor Surgery: Protect Yourself From Malpractice

As a trial lawyer, I have handled numerous medical malpractice cases over the years, and it has required that I learn a great deal of medicine. While some of it is fascinating, some is downright frightening. In fact, I now subscribe to the belief that the only type of “minor surgery” is when they are operating on someone else….other than me or my family! Pituitary tumor surgery is certainly no exception.

The pituitary is an endocrine gland located in a small cavity at the base of the brain. Pituitary tumors are abnormal growths that develop in the gland and are usually benign (non-cancerous). Nevertheless, as they grow in size the tumors can cause problems such as vision loss, double vision, drooping of the eyelids, severe headaches, and hormone imbalance which can cause lightheadedness, excessive thirst, fatigue and cold intolerance. One of the most common forms of treatment for pituitary tumors is surgical removal. Most can be removed transsphenoidally (through the sphenoid sinus cavities located behind the nose).

Venue Booking Service

When booking a venue for a corporate event, there are a few important things which must be considered. The first thing which needs to be accounted for is the size capacity of the venue. Other things like accommodation booking, equipment, transportation accessibility and cost also need to be sorted out. Finding the actual venue for a corporate seminar, meeting, conference or training programme can be an arduous task without professional assistance and guidance. The fact is that the whole process of booking a venue can be a time-consuming and complicated one. Furthermore, most corporate events usually have tight time schedules which must be met. As such, venue booking always requires careful planning and organization.
